28 March 2020 – Film Fiji, the country’s film commission, recently announced that they have suspended the processing of new provisional approval for rebate applications in response to directives put in place by respective countries and the wide spread border restrictions resulting from the global pandemic, COVID-19.
While provisional approvals have been halted, Film Fiji continues to work with production companies in facilitating information until such time borders open and international flights recommence.
Additionally, applications for final certificate for Film Tax Rebate already submitted or in the audit process has been placed on hold to assist the Fijian Government prioritise resource allocation for the nation’s immediate needs during this crisis.
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, many countries’ borders have closed, making air travel next to impossible, which has significantly impacted productions around the world.
Film Fiji is hopeful that once the effects and transmission of COVID-19 has been mitigated through concerted effort by the global community, it will be able to welcome productions to Fiji, which has seen a continuous healthy growth in productions in recent years, attributed to our unique and pristine locations, aided greatly by an attractive tax rebate.
