Film Fiji Inspires Future Filmmakers at the FNU Open Day 2024
Film Fiji recently had the pleasure of attending Fiji National University’s (FNU) Open Day 2024, connecting with hundreds of young school leavers eager to explore their career options. As an organization dedicated to nurturing Fiji’s film industry, Film Fiji’s mission at the event was to spark curiosity and guide aspiring filmmakers toward an exciting and viable future in the local film scene. This year’s Open Day was especially significant as we joined forces with FNU to introduce students to the Certificate IV in Film and Television—the only program of its kind in Fiji.
Opening Doors to a Future in Film
The film industry is a growing field in Fiji, offering diverse opportunities that go beyond just acting or directing. At the FNU Open Day, Film Fiji highlighted the full range of roles available, from production and screenwriting to set design, sound engineering, and post-production editing. Our team was thrilled to see such genuine interest from young Fijians who may one day contribute to the vibrant growth of local film production.
By raising awareness of these paths, Film Fiji hopes to foster a new generation of talent equipped with the skills and creativity needed to succeed. Engaging with students at the Open Day, our representatives shared real-world insights and stories of success from local and international productions filmed right here in Fiji, showing students that the industry offers both exciting career possibilities and a chance to tell their own unique stories on screen.
Highlighting Fiji’s Only Television Course: Certificate IV in Film and Television
As part of our efforts to guide students into the film industry, Film Fiji spotlighted FNU’s Certificate IV in Film and Television. This course, the only one in Fiji focused on television production, provides hands-on training and practical skills that are vital for building a strong foundation in the industry. Covering everything from camera operation and video editing to scriptwriting and producing, the program prepares students to take on essential roles in both film and television. By endorsing this program, Film Fiji hopes to inspire more young talent to take advantage of local education opportunities that align with their creative ambitions.
Shaping the Future of Film in Fiji
Film Fiji’s presence at the FNU Open Day underscored our commitment to cultivating a thriving film industry led by skilled professionals who understand and appreciate Fiji’s cultural richness. We believe that with the right training and support, the next generation of Fijian filmmakers will be able to contribute powerful, authentic narratives to the global stage.
As we move forward, Film Fiji looks forward to seeing an increase in young, passionate Fijians entering the industry and bringing new perspectives and voices to the forefront. To all the students who visited our booth, we thank you for your enthusiasm, and we’re excited to see the future you’ll help create for Fiji’s film and television industry.
