Spotlight on Fijian Talent — Suva International Short Film Festival 2024
20 October 2025Film Fiji proudly supported Alliance Française de Suva’s “Fijian Stories” Movie Night, held on Tuesday, August 19th, which celebrated Fijian storytelling through a selection of short films by Ruve Ni Yawini Pictures.
The event, hosted at Alliance Française, brought together local filmmakers, students, and film enthusiasts for an evening of laughter, reflection, and inspiration. Guests enjoyed a showcase of short films that portrayed everyday Fijian life, from heartfelt community moments to humorous takes on island living.
Ruve Ni Yawini Pictures, a YouTube-based film collective founded by Juninho Black and Epi Vuruna, has been creating grassroots films for nearly five years. Their work captures authentic Fijian and Pacific narratives told from their own perspective, stories that celebrate local culture, language, and identity.
Film Fiji was pleased to support this event, including sponsoring food for guests, as part of its ongoing commitment to promoting local filmmakers and helping to strengthen Fiji’s creative arts community.
Events like these highlight the growing passion for Fijian cinema and the power of collaboration between organisations such as Alliance Française and Film Fiji, both dedicated to nurturing the next generation of storytellers.
