DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER KAMIKAMICA IMPRESSED BY SCALE OF ‘SURVIVOR US’ PRODUCTION IN FIJI

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Hon. Manoa Kamikamica, conducted an extensive site visit to the production set of “Survivor US” on Mana Island, accompanied by Film Fiji’s CEO, Ramiro Tenorio.

The Hon. Deputy Prime Minister was given a tour of the production set by Jeff Probst, the host and executive producer of the popular reality TV show which has become the number one TV show in the US. The group visited various departments, including the art department, camera, audio, marine and challenge setups, and met with local crew members working on the show.

During the site visit, the Hon. Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the impressive scale of the production and its potential impact on Fiji’s economy. “It is truly remarkable to see the level of detail and expertise that goes into creating this worldwide phenomenon right here in our own backyard. It is encouraging to see so many Fijians working across the production. I am confident that, with the right support, our local film crew will continue to grow and that there will be more opportunities for Fijians to enter this highly specialized industry.”

Mr. Tenorio echoed these sentiments, emphasising the importance of promoting Fiji’s unique value proposition and developing the necessary skills to support the growing demand of the audio-visual (AV) industry.
“We compete with tropical locations across the globe; however, Fiji has unique advantages to compete in the market. The steady recovery post pandemic shows that the AV industry is recognizing Fiji as home to some of the most pristine tropical locations in the world, with a very safe environment, experienced English-speaking crew and developed infrastructure. We continue to streamline the operations across stakeholders, and we are focused in supporting the implementation of reliable processes”.

The visit strengthened the relationship between the Fiji Government and the Executive team of the show produced by CBS, the famous US Broadcast Network.
