Young Productions Hosts Private Screening in Suva
On January 24, 2025, Young Productions held a private screening at The Space in Walu Bay, Suva, Fiji, to showcase its debut short films. This exclusive event was dedicated to the talented cast, hardworking crew, and unwavering supporters who contributed to bringing these Fijian-made films to life.
A Tale of Friendship and Survival – The Sandbank
The first film of the evening, The Sandbank, is a compelling short drama that follows three young girls stranded on a tiny strip of sand in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The film stars first-time local actors Saanvi Lal, Megan Compain, and Nardeen Compain, who were all nine years old at the time of filming. Shot on a breathtaking sandbank off the coast of Beqa Island, the film explores themes of friendship, survival, and environmental responsibility. As plastic debris washes ashore and the rising tide threatens their refuge, the girls must face unexpected challenges that test their resilience and bond.

An Inspirational True Story – Nothing Is Impossible: The Primanavia Story
The second feature of the night was Nothing Is Impossible: The Primanavia Story, a 15-minute documentary produced in association with VideoFactory. This inspiring film chronicles the incredible journey of Primanavia, Fiji’s first-ever choir to compete in the World Choir Games, often referred to as the “Olympics of Singing.” With only six weeks to prepare—while most choirs spend years training—Primanavia overcame obstacles through sheer dedication, perseverance, and an unbreakable passion for music.
The documentary left viewers inspired, highlighting the immense talent within Fiji’s artistic community and showcasing the power of determination and teamwork.
A Celebration of Fijian Storytelling
Presented by Caleb Young and Young Productions, the event was a celebration of Fijian creativity, storytelling, and filmmaking. Both The Sandbank and Nothing Is Impossible were made with a 100% Fijian cast and crew, emphasizing the country’s rich artistic talent and passion for homegrown cinema.
The screening was not only a showcase of two remarkable films but also a gathering of a community dedicated to supporting and uplifting Fijian cinema. Attendees were left with a sense of pride and inspiration, reinforcing the importance of telling local stories and sharing them with the world.
