Season 37 of “Survivor US: David vs Goliath” premiers on 26 September in the USA in a special 90-minute episode. This is the 7th time that the Emmy Award winning reality TV show has filmed in Fiji, making Fiji the most used location in the history of the series and the Mamanuca Islands the first location to be used for six consecutive seasons. It is expected that nearly 9 million viewers will watch the premier.
This comes as no surprise after Executive Producer and multi-Emmy Awards winning host, Jeff Probst told Entertainment Weekly last year “I hope we stay here forever.” He attributes his enthusiasm for using Fiji as a filming location to the great locations and the support of the Fijian Government saying “Fiji offers us everything that we want. Incredibly beautiful water that you can see down 30 feet, beaches that are amazing, a Government that is working with us, local labor that loves to say ‘Bula!’ every day because they’re just happy you’re here.”
Film Fiji CEO Mr Dallas Foon said “We are pleased to have Survivor continue to stay in Fiji. Having a production of this magnitude here for six straight seasons is a positive indication of their faith in the capabilities of Fiji’s growing film industry. A production of this caliber gives our local crew the opportunity to consistently develop their skills in their areas of expertise. This season saw 387 locals work on the Survivor production.”
Season 37 of Survivor US: David vs Goliath sees 20 strangers divided into two groups of 10; the “Davids” and the “Goliaths”. This season includes a pro wrestler, a robotics scientist, an MMA fighter, a physician and a S.W.A.T. officer.
“Davids” are described as those who have had to overcome adversity in their lives, while “Goliaths” are those who capitalise on their individual advantages to use against their opponents.
When describing the new set of contestants, Jeff Probst told Entertainment Weekly, “It doesn’t matter whether you were born with your advantage or had to work for it, because everybody knows that every David has a secret weapon and every Goliath certainly has their Achilles heel, and that’s what Survivor will bring out. It will bring you to your knees and it will lift you to your highest heights. It’s all about context and situation and how you respond.”
